Segmentation fault (11). [SOLVED]

I am a relative long-time user of Q4OS and it is the only operating system installed to my computers.
Early last month I upgraded my 2 desktop computers and 1 Laptop from Q4OS 3.15 Centaurus, stable to Q4OS 4.7 Gemini, stable. My computers meet all hardware requirements and the system is being kept updated via Update Manager.

I am experiencing on all 3 computers frequent 'crashes' due to a Segmentation fault.

Details:
Executable: kwin_x11 PID: 2412 Signal: Segmentation fault (11).
Unfortunately, "The crash information could not be generated".

The following applications are usually used during the crash: Firefox, Thundebird, KWrite and LibreOffice calc.

Switching from OpenGL 2.0 to Xrender or OpenGL 3.1 does not make any difference and "Scale method "Accurate" is not supported by all hardware and can cause performance regressions and rendering artifacts." Also, the Desk Cube Animation does not work anymore.

I logged out of the Plasma session Ctrl-Alt-F2 and performed
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade but this didn't make any difference either.

I feel out of my depth dealing with this situation and request assistance for a suitable fix.

Re: Segmentation fault (11). [SOLVED]

The issue likely arises with some incompatible configuration files. You could clean your home directory and let Plasma and applications to create a new configuration.

In general, upgrading major-to-major version for any desktop Linux distribution brings hidden incompatibilities and unexpected issues. For that reason we don't recommend upgrading from Q4OS-3 Centaurus to Q4OS-4 Gemini, but a fresh new installation.

Re: Segmentation fault (11). [SOLVED]

Thanks for responding and I am sorry for my ambiguous post.

As a matter of fact, I did download the live media (Q4OS Gemini Plasma live 64bit/x64 iso file) and made a bootable usb stick to install the new OS to the computers. It's very strange that these crashes are happening to all 3 devices.

In fact, while writing this post I had another crash [Executable: kwin_x11 PID: 2427 Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Time: 4/1/22 5:26:57 AM +07].

Since this particular issue seems uncommon I only can speculate that perhaps usb image writer made an imperfect bootable usb stick. If there is no solution to this than I will re-install using a different usb image writer and usb stick. I have a great back-up system in place which makes re-installing a breeze.

Re: Segmentation fault (11). [SOLVED]

at long last, I might have solved this nagging issue. After resetting the Splash Screen to default and removing the splash screen downloadable in System Settings the crashing of KWin ceased or at least I hope so.
