Share monitor screen to tv

I'm running Gemini PLasma. A few times when trying to accomplish something else, I saw a popup come up with options to share my monitor screen. I would close the popup... it was getting in the way. Today I plugged in my HDMI cable that goes to the TV. The TV is set to receive a signal. When I had linuxmint XFCE on this laptop, I used it frequently. But now that I'm ready... there's no popup. I don't know what the program was called, and I can't find it.

So how can I do this, with this OS?

In my laptop, I press F4 and the popup menu appears. You can also find this setting in System settings > Display & monitor

That didn't work for me. But just now doing another search I found the key combo to bring up the popup: the meta key +p
Or the Windows key +p.

This brings up the popup but only the close button works. None of the other configurations work. :-(

On XFCE I installed Lxrandr, a GUI front-end for Xrandr. They have some Debian Bulleye packages listed here:
https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/lxrandr

The page says it's a LXDE monitor configuration tool, but I'm hoping one of them will work for Plasma. If you think one of these packages could work, could you point me to the right one?

You mean this popup, right?

It does work for me here. How are you trying to "share" the screen?  This works if there's a second display connected either via HDMI or VGA, no via Wi-Fi a la chomecast, but wired. If you're trying to cast the screen via W-FI to a smart display, this won't work. No idea sorry, you might try them, and if they do work, good, if they don't, remove them.

Connect your smart TV with the HDMI cable, launch konsole and run this command 

xrandr

output should be something like this 

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192

In your case, HDMI-0 should say "connected", mine's disconnected now.

Run these commands, 1 at a time:

xrandr

while the smart TV and the HDMI cable are disconnected, copy the output and save it to a file. Next, run 

sudo udevadm monitor

and then plug and unplug the HDMI cable, copy the output and save it to a file. Lastly, run 

cat /sys/class/drm/card0/*HDMI*/status

copy the output and save it to a file, then post the output from all commands.

With the HDMI cable unplugged and the TV turned off, this is the data I collected. The sudo udevadm monitor command had to be stopped manually.

Above command wouldn't stop even after waiting for 15 minutes. I closed the window to stop it.

Yes, udev monitor had to be stopped manually with Ctrl + c Launch konsole and run this, please

Ok. Let's try this: connect the TV via the HDMI cable, launch konsole and run this 

xrandr --output HDMI-A-1 --auto

looks like xrandr isn't picking the HDMI display up, but the LVDS only, hopefully, this will try and do that.

Ok. At this point, I suggest you try and check whether the cable/port is working fine, you could download a different distro's iso file, or even use Q4OS', write the .iso to a USB, and boot the live OS, then try connecting your smart TV, and if it works, then something's wrong with Debian's/Q4OS' settings in Plasma, and if it doesn't, then you should probably try/get a new HDMI cable, if after confirming that a new cable didn't make any difference, then something might be wrong with the HDMI port. In short, discarding possible reasons(hardware or software related)that explain why it is not working.

I think I replaced XFCE with Plasma four days ago. The HDMI was working fine. The connection is tight on the TV, and there is only one HDMI cable port on this laptop. I have Linuxmint on a live USB -- I can give that a try.

Edit a little later:

I plugged in the Linuxmint live USB. It only took about 5 seconds and I had the laptop screen displaying on the TV. It must be Plasma that has a problem.

You mean you installed XFCE in Q4OS? Or was it another distro? The xrandr command runs at a system level, it doesn't have to do anything with Plasma specifically. I think something might be wrong with Debian's/Q4OS' settings in Plasma, some missing configuration file ... I don't know. It works just fine for me, tho.

The laptop had Linuxmint XFCE on it. This is what I was using a few days ago. Then I replaced it with Q4IS Gemini, and it no longer works. To test it today, I used a Linux mint, live USB, to login to the laptop with Gemini on it. Linux mint live USB had no problem with sharing the screen to the TV. That's why I think it must be Debian's/Q4OS that's the problem
