Chromium broken?

I installed Q4OS Trinity 32-Bit on an old potato Acer Travelmate 8100 laptop and after installing Chromium and clicking on it nothing happens..
Also there was a horrible crackling sound from the speakers upon every start and when there was any sound event going on. This happened on Zorin OS and Linux Mint as well, the Chromium death too.

So yeah, I did not invest anymore time in trying to get audio to work properly on it so it now has Windows 7 with a ESU patch (erhmm..I'm soooo sorry Microsoft) and that's how it will stay until it dies of old age.

I just wanted to mention about Chromium in case you were not aware of this.

Thanks for reporting, we will try to reproduce and investigate the issue. What desktop software profile did you apply upon the initial system setup ?

Hi Clint Burtwood.
You can open chromium from the terminal and see what it is missing.
And the second is a screenshot of 32 bit Q4os. Launching Chromium increases memory usage from 360 to almost 800 MB.
But this is with a minimum of necessary services, without samba, cups, etc.

Thanks for reporting, we will try to reproduce and investigate the issue. What desktop software profile did you apply upon the initial system setup ?

I did the full install one, with all guns blazing.

Like I already mentioned, I no longer have Q4OS installed. But I have noticed funky weirdness on Windows 7 too: Firefox works, Microsoft Edge works but no other chromium based browser works at all. So this is clearly some odd hardware issue in this old potato Oh well, like I mentioned, it will stay on Windows 7 the rest of its days and apparently Firefox will continue to support it too.. so yeah, that was a couple of interesting days spent in old-hardwareland.. Time sure is up soon for many computers, since not too many distros will support 32-bit processors and so on. This machine runs really well with Windows 7, 2 gigs of RAM and an old 5400 rpm spinner, although youtube videos above 480p are a no-no.. And Q4OS Trinity ran really well too, I must say, just a shame about the audio crackle.. I had XPQ4 on it too so it was a lean mean retro machine haha..matching the fancy XP sticker it has slapped on it Had I known that chromium won't run on Windows either I probably would not have ditched Q4OS for 7 on it but oh well, it is what it is. Not gonna tinker with that machine anymore.

Your computer, you decide.
You can install chromium on the live image (https://q4os.org/downloads3.html) and see the launch information output in the terminal.
But honestly, for such a computer, I would try something easier.

PS. By the way.
The startup information would probably help the developers as well.
In a virtual machine, you can simulate the size of memory, have ancient hardware today ...

Just passing on that I installed Q4OS Trinity 32-Bit and had the same issue. Chromium would never show a window and would just crash at start up.

I installed Pale Moon which works fine.

I did some reading about this old laptop and turns out its processor is the culprit here, it doesn't have SSE3 that Chromium requires nowadays. So, nope, Chromium is NOT broken. Nothing to see here, move alooong people
