New install Randomly Freezing

Hello, I recently installed Q4OS Centaurus, Trinity, Live - 64bit/x64 on my brand new computer build and it seems to randomly freeze, on Plasma desktop and on idle after about 4 hours on Trinity.

Here's what I have tried:
1. Adding "processor.max_state=5 rcu_nocbs=0-11" to the boot options on GRUB. From an arch linux form post.
2. To test to see if the freezing is resoled, I started my computer, logged in and let it run the Space (GL) Screen Saver, so I could visually see if it froze. On Trinity desktop, it would freeze after about 4 hours of inactivity.

The freezing would result in a complete freeze where "CTRL + ALT + DEL" would not work and I would have to press and hold the power button to restart. The Debug readout on the MB does not display anything.

Here's my system:
Asrock X470 Taichi Ultimate with BIOS 1.50
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
Mushkin DDR4 2666 64GB (32GB x 2) running in dual channel memory mode
AMD Radeon RX580 8GB (Reference)
Samsung Evo plus 1TB NVME SSD
2x 1TB harddrives

looking at the log files using "sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog" only reveals what has happened since boot, I would be willing to provide logs earlier, but I don't know how to do that.

Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate

Re: New install Randomly Freezing

Update: I ran Memtester in a linux console and it passes with no errors.

Here is some logs that reads out when I enter: sudo grep "Error" /var/log/syslog
(I included only the ones that occurred at a freeze and underscored my name)

Dec 21 23:28:20 _______-pc kernel: [    1.545076] amdgpu: [powerplay] Error in phm_get_clock_info

Wow, boy, looks like I have found the most powerful PC, which is running on Q4OS! yikes
Are you using it for games or for server?
According to you problem, you can try to install recent Linux kernel, to see if it helps: https://q4os.org/dqa011.html#system.6
It is difficult to help with such kind of problems, if the helper does not have similar hardware. (I am not so rich to buy so expensive PC sad )

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Re: New install Randomly Freezing

Ive got a Ryzen 5 2600 system with RX 570 gpu with the X370 mobo/16gb ram and I can run both Centaurus with no issues at all. Im not able to recreate your issue with my system. The 4.19 kernel causes no issues with my system. I havent had any experience with the x470 mobo so I cant really comment. Im not using the newest drivers for the my RX 570 as the older drivers work fine. Some have reported issues using the newest drivers with the RX 580 and given the card has been out a few years, its well supported in Linux.

Re: New install Randomly Freezing

Its a Dell 5676 that I bought last Christmas for myself. If you buy one for your birthday get one with the newer X570 motherboard so you can use the newer Ryzen cpus. I may build a new system with a newer mobo down the road but happy for now.
Older X470 and X370 motherboards will need a bios update to use newer Ryzen cpus. In my case Dell wont release a bios update so Ill have to upgrade down the road.
RX570/580 videocards are good for now but are starting to get a little outdated so look to a newer card if you build a system down the road.

Really? Sweet! I was tired of using Windows 10 and dealing with it's issues, so after playing around with different Linux distributions I decided using Q4OS is the way to go.

I am using it for video editing, 3D modeling, programming, etc.

Thank you, I'll give that a try!

Re: New install Randomly Freezing

OK, I tried updating the Kernel, which resulted in the Trinity desktop not loading, (I would get to the tty login) so I logged in there to try to get it working but with no avail. I was getting a lot of dpkg failing and NOPUBKEY_XXXXXXXXX prompts in the terminal whenever I tried to install new packages or reinstall others. The one issue I didn't state earlier was that I was getting a NOPUBKEY_XXXXXXXXX issue every time I tried to "sudo apt update". The good news is I was able to run a command to recover it. By that time I thought It would be better just to reinstall Q4OS, and I did. To my surprise, the computer would no longer freeze! Hooray! I'm guessing either something went wrong on the previous installation and/or no public key was causing issues. Whatever it was, my computer is working fine now. Thank you all for your help!
