Laptop Will Not Restart With New RAM

I have a Samsung R610 64 Bit laptop with Q4OS installed. It currently has 2gb of RAM. I purchased a new 2gb stick and installed it but the computer won't start. The main screen just keeps cycling over and over. If I remove the new RAM it starts just fine. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a software program for it to recognize the new RAM? Help!

Re: Laptop Will Not Restart With New RAM

I would try removing the old ram and replacing it with the new ram and see what happens. If the computer will not boot then you know something is wrong with the new ram. If it boots then there is the possibility that the slot for the second ram is bad.

Re: Laptop Will Not Restart With New RAM

There are a number of different R610 Models - AS05, AS06, AS07 etc.
In addition to the above, I suggest you look at Kingston www.kingston.com, search for your specific model and make sure the memory you have purchased is the correct speed and type for your machine.

Re: Laptop Will Not Restart With New RAM

Thank you for the excellent suggestions. Here is what happened. I installed the new stick of RAM in place of the original RAM and the laptop started just fine. Then I installed the old RAM stick in the bottom slot and the laptop started just fine. Then I put the cover back on, plugged the laptop back in to the wall and guess what? The laptop didn't start. So I unplugged it and and it started right up. It will not start while plugged in with the new memory installed. Any ideas?

Re: Laptop Will Not Restart With New RAM

I just put everything back to the way it was. Original stick of RAM in the top slot. Plugged it back in the way it's always been and it started right up while plugged in the wall. Apparently there is an issue with the new RAM. Maybe the wrong speed?

Re: Laptop Will Not Restart With New RAM

Did you check the laptop manufactures RAM compatibility list to make sure the brand and model of the new RAM is compatible with your system?

Speed and timing of the new RAM does need to match your original RAM.

Re: Laptop Will Not Restart With New RAM

Update! I ordered a 1GB stick of RAM. Installed it, plugged in to the wall outlet and fired it up. It starts perfectly fine with 3GB of RAM while plugged into the wall. In closing Crosscourt you are/were correct. It's a no go with 4GB of RAM!
