How can I change the musical piece at boot up

One thing I don't much care for is the little drum beat that plays at the end of the boot sequence of q4os. Is there a way to change this to a different musical piece?

I have the same question. It plays very loud and I always have to readjust my speaker volume every time after boot. Is it possible to disable it?

From the menu, go to Settings > Control Panel. Click on Sound & Multimedia. Then click on System Notifications. This is where you can change the start-up music, or turn it off completely.

Scroll through the Events and look for "TDE is starting up". Click on it to highlight it, then near the bottom, click on Advanced. In the Actions panel, you can change the sound. To turn the sound off completely, clear the check box.

@Theresa: At the moment, there is only one sound file for start-up...the one you want to change is it. There might be some other sound in those files you would like. It looks like Q4OS only supports WAV files. There are three other start-up sound files, but they are .ogg and are not recognized at this time. That might be something for the Q4OS Team's "To-Do" list.

FYI, if you go to /opt/trinity/share/sounds, you will find the other three start sounds (KDE_startup_1, KDE_startup_2, KDE_startup_3). They can be converted to WAV with a sound converter or Audacity.

I converted the three .ogg files to WAV, but when I tried to attach them it failed. (Too big. )

As I can see, *.ogg sound system notifications are not working at all. Only TDE startup notification is working. Please fix it.

Try to permanently set mixer levels with 'alsamixer' or 'alsamixergui' tool.

I can't find /opt/trinity/share/sounds. Can you help please.

Hi Theresa. Open your file manager, then above the folder area on the menu bar you will see an UP arrow. Click it twice an you will be in /. There you will see the opt folder. From there, open each of the folder names listed.

Sadly more problems. I went to Settings > Control Panel>Sound & Multimedia and double clicked on System Notifications and it opened Firefox! Firefox gave me a dialog box to save file with Kate and the result is real chaos. Screenshot attached. Please help.

Everything looks fine. Try to reset your desktop settings, note it will revert changes you have made in your user profile:

The desktop was reset to default. I could see the changes. The issue is still there. I learned to take smaller screenshots and I am attaching 2. Attachment in this post shows what happens when I click on System Notifications - Firefox opens and prompts me to open program with Kate. The one in the next post below shows the result after Kate opened System notifications.

Something similar is happening, when I try to 'Open in new window'.

Try to launch Control Centre --> Peripherals --> Mouse and revert default mouse settings.

I got as far as Mouse and couldn't find the default settings for it. When I double clicked on the mouse icon, the same thing that happened when I double clicked on system notifications happened. The same as in the attachments I have posted above. Firefox opened and all the rest.

I also found this. Right clicked on mouse icon>properties>in the little window that opens I clicked on the spanner next to Mouse settings. The window that opened shows Firefox as "Application preference order". I have attached it here.

Then I right clicked System notifications>Properties>System notification configuration (spanner tool), and got the exact result = An identical window to what I got above with the Mouse. Application preference order - Firefox. The window is identical in both cases.

I wonder if all this is important to my problem.

Looks like you found the solution! Remove Firefox from Application preference order. I don`t have any applications defined there.

The last post shows the problem, your system has messed file associations. It could happen by manual intervention or by some automatic process. Where did you install Firefox from ?

Click on the 'Firefox' in 'Application preference order' and remove it with 'Remove' button. Save and try to open Control panel items again.
Update: Oh, Rademes was faster, as I see above
