Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

Just installed Q4OS on above hardware and can report its all running quite nicely and is quite usable once you step back a little and allow for disc [sd card] write times.

I'd consider moving the OS to an SSD once Iv'e done some more testing but I consider Q4OS better than Raspbian if you just need general office desktop!

Perhaps Q4OS can launch a USB stick installer for RPi?

Or even sell RPi branded cases / hardware?

Just my funny idea but in any case this combo makes a great small / portable office computer smile

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

Yes, it could be fine combo device. We are ready to support you, if you would want to start such a project. What version of Q4OS have you installed ? Q4OS Orion Raspberry Pi version, based on Raspbian Jessie, or Q4OS Scorpion ARM port based on the current Debian Stretch ?

Downloaded from the hardware specific section smile

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ cat /etc/*-release
PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie)"
NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="8"
VERSION="8 (jessie)"
ID=raspbian

Can test Scorpion if required?

Thanks, no request to test Scorpion, only if you would want to try it out.

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

OK now have a Pi3B+ and installed Raspbian Lite via Noobs. Downloaded q4os-setup.sh and issued a sudo.

Its identifies the system as Debian Stretch but says 'the system is not ready for Q4os'

Edit: Identifies as 'Raspbian Stretch' - guess that's the issue!

Any lite stretch images for the RPi3b+ anywhere?

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

You need to install Debian Stretch arm64/64bit, or armhf/32bit, as 'q4os-setup.sh' script needs Debian to setup the system correctly. The Raspbian Stretch OS is not supported by Trinity developers at the moment.

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

The DietPi image looks promising but also fails the installer check with an empty os id sad

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

Is for the plain 3 isn't it? Not the 3B+...

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

I would think the RaspberryPi3 version (which is 64 bit Debian Buster) would probably work but as it is still testing there is likely to be the odd glitch along the way.

Please let us know how you get on though as I have one on my wish list and any info would be helpful smile

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

For pre-built images there is Raspbian and Raspbian Lite. There is also DietPi and RaspArch.

For manual install I think this will work for the RPi3b+

https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv … berry-pi-3
http://de4.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/os/

I haven't found a nice Debian based tutorial / manual howto for the RPi3b+ - yet...

I am downloading RaspArch to give that a spin tonight. Raspbian Lite was fine other than building a desktop of choice can take time and not neccy any faster than using full Raspbian.

Would be nice to see an updated Q4OS image for the RPi3b+ soon...

Yes, we agree. You could also endorse this report https://bugs.trinitydesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2857

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

Couldn't get the screen res right in RaspArch so after 20 mins of fighting it I gave full Raspbian a spin.

Honestly?

Q4OS on a RPi3 is faster than Raspbian on an RPi3b+ smile

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

Now back on the plain 3 and everything is going quite well. One question though: XPQ4 detects 1.8.10-nl-rpi but needs Q4OS 2.4.8 min - can I fool it into installing?

Re: Q4OS on Raspberry Pi 3

Interesting comments about the 3b+

https://forum.armbian.com/topic/7763-be … ment-58860

as well as another option

http://www.raspbsd.org/raspberrypi.html

Maybe the hardware is closed / crippled in some way but when something as popular as the RPi comes along everyone seems to get involved.

Guess there are better platforms technically but less support in software...
