Heat Problem

my laptop is heating using this os , I use windows , and it is supercold , windows uses 80 % ram , but it is supercold , Q4os uses 40% ram , but it is heating
How do solve this ?

Asus A46Ca
Intel core i3 , intel hd 4000

Tell us how you installed the O/S - in as much detail as possible
Sounds like something went very wrong, you had a hardware failure

The Asus a46ca uses both the Nvidia gpu(gt620m?) and the Intel HD4000 gpu correct? It appears in Windows youve got the Optimus Nvidia drivers installed thus the Nvidia gpu isnt running all the time, cooler with the Intel HD 4000.. In Q4OS it appears the drivers arent installed thus the laptop is using the Nvidia gpu all the time and it creates a lot of heat, rather than switching over to the Intel HD 4000 gpu which runs cooler.

Its a reported issue I believe with the A46ca and you might want to look at getting Optimus drivers installed.

There's a similar issue on the Debian forum here but it has not been resolved as yet, the user has problems when playing games using

GPU - Intel Integrated Graphics HD 4600
Processor - Intel Core 4th Generation i5-4200M Processor (Dual Core, 2.5 GHz)

Not the same hardware, but as it seems to be a similar issue and might be worth following that thread to see where it goes...

It can happen when you arent playing games as a lot of online content uses hardware acceleration and in some cases the Nvidia gpu ends up being used instead of the Intel HD 4000 gpu.

In the case Dai posted, that person is trying to run games on an IGP where it really needs the help of a decent video card which depending on the system cant always happen. 100% cpu utilization can cause severe overheating and damage if not corrected.
Running Windows games on Linux the results vary and performance many times isnt that good particularly if the video card isnt that great to begin with or relies on the cpu.

The comments in post #1 didnt mention gaming and it appears the system is overheating in general use. There have been reports of issues with the A46CA and overheating in Linux due to driver issues.

I would imaging that to be the case too, but was posting from the information in the linked Debian post, the user only noticed it when playing games and has posted some information regarding it...

Im no expert on Nvidia Optimus but problems do occur thru drivers, lack of drivers and bios settings, and various needs of applications that can force the Nvidia side to run all the time.

Support in Linux isnt very good thus the Bumblebee Project has become the go to.

thanks for the link bro , but it isn't the case of gaming , I use it for daily office and internet , the heat is over than I use windows 10 ,
something wrong with the driver ?

No Nvidia? Whats your exact model number as A46CA is the generic? Could be a driver issue but doubtful with the Intel GPU. You could check to see what driver is being used and how recent it is.

This type of thing though does happen with various laptops in a variety of distros as Ive seen posts about Ubuntu, Arch and Kali for instance.
This happening during regular use and the fan ends up running constantly.

None of my laptops(Dell E5410-5430) have this issue and they use either Radeon or Intel GPUs and are Ivy Bridge i3 systems.

Certainly make sure speedstep is enabled in the bios but given youre not having any issues with Windows it probably is.

What I meant was are you dual-booting with any other distros, file system, partition size, swap, etc ...

Your h/w list is pretty standard fare - surely the wonks @ Debian & Q4O/S would have discovered this

There are a couple TDE utlities that are a must-have ....

tdepowersave-trinity .... Power management applet for Trinity

klaptopdaemon-trinity ..... battery monitoring and management for laptops using TDE

There is also an X.org utility ..... more ....

Install 'Synaptic Package Manager' - it just works - will keep digging for ya - glad you enjoy it ... luv KISS

Install KDE5 -$ altdeski - it will clean-up some of the ruff edges - now 'dual-boot' that beautiful, svelte baby also
All these events that keep bugging ya are controlled from one utility ... the gingerbread is also simply awesome

Given this issue with the Asus A46CA hes experiencing, also happens on a variety of other Linux distros, it appears Asus has done something that isnt compatible with some versions of Linux. They arent the only company whos had issues like that but it may take a bit of experimenting and checking to see. Not sure if its worth trying a newer kernel than the 4.9 but it might help, say 4.14.
