Hi to all
I am a (brand)new guy around here

I installed scorpion 2.4 r1 ( 1 )a few weeks ago, just to see how it looked like.
On installation, everything looked normal.

Edit: 14 december 2017. I obviously didn't look properly, as this was first contact with q4os

I installed scorpion 2.4 r2 ( 2 ) 3 days ago.
It did - not - look normal .

The installation screen's width was 2x the size of my monitor.
This means that I was typing in info on the left side, and then had to scroll 50 cm to the right to click apply or OK ( whatever it was-forgot-sorry )

My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster S24B370

If you need more info, please just ask.

After installation, all was normal, as far as looks are concerned.

I have decided to give Q4OS a 3 months try, as it's looks are very-very different than what I have used the last 11 years . ( breaking addiction is hard to do )

It's the very same on my Laptop.
So, I don't think it's hardware specific

Here a follow up on above messages

There is a long story and there is a short story.
I give you the short one ( if you want the long one, just ask )

The above mentioning of a setup screen twice the width of my monitor........>
...happens when I have a LAN cable plugged in when I load from a USB into RAM and then click on
install icon

...does " not " happen when I pull out the LAN cable << before >> I load from USB into RAM and then click on the install icon ( w.o.w .....no LAN cable plugged in...no problem )

How many times did I try ? I lost count at 15 !

Sure, but...
First Things First

The above mentioned boot up, try, exit is not really necessary.
I just found out, that simply putting in and pulling out the LAN cable produces the same effect

a-- LAN cable in -- boot up from USB and load into RAM
b--click install icon.........>produces a 2x screen-width setup screen
c--click Quit
d--pull out LAN cable , click install icon........> normal screen ... repeat ...repeat ...repeat

I tried on both Laptop and Desktop ( + my wife's Laptop )

I downloaded Q4OS r1 (= previous ISO ) from Linux-tracker.
Used the same USB stick and same dd command

Results are same as first reported

I then downloaded Q4OS-live-2.3.6-x64
...same story as above

Last but not least !
Before you people start digging and swatting, I would like to eliminate the possibility of my install-media and install -procedure.

As I have been a RPM-Distro guy my whole life and this USB install was done on a RPM distro with dd command, I would like to know how you Q4OS/Debian-guys put a downloaded ISO on a USB stick

Please point me in the right direction /or/ give instructions and I will do the whole thing over again.
EDIT : never mind, I found it in the forum

I haven't used the "loading to RAM" option, so cannot say what might be causing this, and don't currently have the time to test but will be keeping an eye on this thread as it has got me curious. If I get time at the weekend I might be able to give it a try on a couple of systems just to see if I get the same results.

Same here I havent used the load to ram option either but I also have never had this problem on 257 installs of Q4OS on a huge variety of systems.

Live sessions also have been fine, which we do to test initially,

You are right. This hardware should not cause the problem.
But, I have taken my old distro, used the same procedure and same USB stick , loaded into RAM and there is no problem.

However, there is only one thing left , and that is the cable , Yes ? Well ,I changed that too, as ridiculous as it seems !

I can check one more thing, but that is going to take time.
I have to trouble the wife, and that is, at present, not advised

That < one more thing > is:
The difference between internet by optical cable and internet by the old system .
After writing this I feel as if I have taken an overdose of < .... > ( fill in the blanc s )

OK, let's wait till you guys had a go

Just a last word ( for now ) It's not affecting the distro or it's reputation,so............

No problem, so load into ram is obviously not the issue.

What was your old distro(did you mean scorpion 2.4 r1)? Does your old distro use the same kernel as scorpion, 4.9?

Im a long time RPM user as well, Fedora,PCLinuxOS, and Mageia mainly.

Optical cable shouldnt be an issue.

Youre not stirring up anything. We are just trying to get a handle on the problem.

I use other distros as well as Q4OS, PCLinuxOS is one fo them. PCLOS though uses the 4.10 kernel doesnt it?

Could be a newer kernel is needed but hopefully the devs will have some suggestions.

Youre a bit newer than I am as my install of PCLOS KDE is using the 4.11.8 kernel(recently updated). It may be the newer kernel that solved the issue, but I still find it interesting that Scorpion 2.4 r1(4.9 kernel) you said worked fine, curious. I wonder what the difference is between the r1 and r2 versions of 2.4 that caused an issue. An issue that PCLOS with a newer kernel has solved as well.

The devs would have discern what changed that could have caused this.

That was my first post and first contact.
I have edited my first post and corrected my 1st wrong statement

In the mean time, I updated my kernel in pclos to 4.14.5 , and re-do/did < the whole thing >.
Same results

I hope you don't mind if I correct you :
The Q4OS-live-2.3.6-x64 , the Scorpion-r1 and the Scorpion-r2 all react the same on < plug in - pull-out > the Lan cable

Sorry if I caused confusion. My head is spinning too ! !

Thanks for clearing that up but I would be curious to see if PCLinuxOS would still work with the 4.9 kernel given I believe any kernel older than 4.10 will cause the issue.

Yes, PC... still works with the available 4.9.65 LTS kernel.
However, our curious issue of < cable-in , cable-out > remains the same ( after repeating above routine )

I think we should leave it to the Devs.
I do not have the necessary know-how to make judgements or to take this any further

If you read post 7 , you will see that I installed an iso to USB stick from within Q4OS,
using << sudo cp name.iso /dev/sdc >> with same results, so, it has little to do with other distro, in my opinion !

Im not so sure of that but right now Im at a loss given Ive never experienced an issue of this nature with any distro Ive ever used.

Hopefully the devs will analyze it and have some suggestions.

I'd like to see if it happens with the base Debian installer. Since the q4os installer is derived from that, it would at least give a little more insight into where the issue lies.
