get_iplayer

Hi guys,

Firstly, many thanks for a wonderful distro. It is now my daily driver. Nice and stable, fast, and a joy to work with.

The only thing that I am missing is a program called 'get_iplayer'.
It is a CLI program to download/record BBC programs, here in the UK.
It is nothing to do with the 'official' BBC Iplayer app.

Would there be any chance of adding it to the Q4OS repos ?

Thanks,

Phil

Re: get_iplayer

Erm,
Sorry, guys, I now have it working, apparently OK.
I found this link: https://github.com/get-iplayer/get_iplayer/wiki/unixpkg
and installed the deb package from the Ubuntu/Mint link.
It seems to pull in any required dependencies, and seems to work fine.
I have downloaded a tv program, and it plays fine.

So my Q4OS is now darn-near perfect !

Hope this may help someone else.

Thanks,
Phil

Re: get_iplayer

I hope you didn't use a PPA for installation, or if you did I hope you removed it from your sources.list. Be warned that many packages available for Ubuntu/Mint might work, but are not always fully compatible with Debian (Q4OS base system) and may break your system at some time in the future.

Re: get_iplayer

Hi Dai,

Nope, I did not use the PPA - I am not keen on adding 'extra' sources to a repo. Instead I downloaded the .deb package and installed that.

As I say, all seems fine, but I shall be backing up my data, just in case things go south !

For now, I am just enjoying a wonderful distro.

Cheers,
Phil

Re: get_iplayer

That's good to hear, I would imagine it would be ok as it has no access to "out of supported repo" packages. I might try this when I get a chance as I am always missing things on tv when I'm working (or should I say playing big_smile )
