System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

Hi,

i'm a long-time Windows users looking for Linux alternatives. As a software developer i have a little bit of Linux experience on the command line, but none when it comes to desktop configuration.

I had Q4OS 5.2 running in a VM for a while, today i tried to install it on real hardware for the first time.

The installation went flawlessly, then the system asked me to install the NVidia drivers, i said yes. This also succeeded without any errors.

But after reboot i am in a endless login loop:
I enter my password, the screen shows the text console for a second, then i'm on the login screen again.

I did this twice on two different systems, the issue is the same on both machines.

System 1:
i5-4460?
16GB RAM
GTX-970

System 2:
i7-6700k
32GB RAM
GTX 1080

I don't know how to proceed from here, any hints are appreciated.

Re: System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

It seems your systems are not compatible with Debian nvidia-drivers. Run in console:
$ nvidia-uninstall
and post back

Re: System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

Thanks for the quick response.

I the meantime i had already started another installation, this time i picked Trinity instead of Plasma, and this worked.

Re: System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

using Trinity, is that from the Desktop Profiler, or just installing with Trinity. q4os runs fine until i install nvidia-drivers, then does not finish boot after that. i will post my own thread, asap. just got to work out a few things. one is how to post system, i cant find it in my bookmarks.
maybe i need just how to post. i remember just  the part "-Fxxx",  using console, was better, but is only part of the command.

Re: System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

We have some more reports about Nvidia drivers in Q4OS, we are now investigating. We will post here some more info.

Re: System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

So we have updated Nvidia drivers installer for Q4OS, it should fix issues at least for some users. It would be helpful, if you try to run installer once again and post here a result.

Re: System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

new version works fine so far. downloaded Nvidia drivers 1st.,  after downloading, then 4 more programs. shutdown and rebooted twice. thanks very much.

I guess this can be marked solved. technically though, it is not my thread. also, my camera got recognized for once, before the Nvidia problem i had.
i will check which version i used of q4os, before i correct this thread, where i posted. it was:  q4os-5.4-x64.r1.iso
i might have used a thumb drive, cant remember, right off..
i do have balenaEtcher, and kinda like it..

Re: System breaks after installing Nvidia drivers

I just waned to report back that 5.4 did not solve the issue for me (i assume the new image contained the above mentioned new Nvidia driver installer). I did a fresh install using "q4os-5.4-x64-instcd.r1.iso". The behavior was exactly like in my original post.

I don't know if it's relevant, but i'll mention it anyway: Even before installing the Nvidia drivers, there was the small issue that the mouse pointer disappeared when it was over the title area of any window.
