Converting a Samsung Chrome Book 4 to Q4os!

I had to buy a new laptop because the old dell d430 bit the big one. I bought a cheap Samsung CB4 Chromebook. I will copy and paste the guide here (this one worked great! Follow stabvest221 in the comments). This worked for installing Q4os, only issue is no sound, though I suspect I need alsa drivers. I may rewrite this guide myself someday.

https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comme … omebook_4/

And a guide to tell you other ways, but mostly how to enter developer mode etc

Re: Converting a Samsung Chrome Book 4 to Q4os!

I suspect that what I need are the intel blobs for /lib/firmware/intel and the asound.state file for /var/lib/alsa pulled from chromeos.

If it is not a secret, how much have you paid for this Chromebook? Last month I have purchased used DELL Latitude E5450 with Core i5-5300U CPU for 210 EUR, and it is working very well with Q4OS. Everything worked out of the box.

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

$167 (152 EUR) after tax, from walmart new (not used). Yours would be the better deal for power, but I needed something quick, just for work, portable, and long lasting battery. Also I do not have to upgrade parts, not that I could as the Samsung cb4 is not upgrade-able.

You can buy it used for $70 (64 EUR) on eBay. But I think yours is the better deal.

The issue with the sound is that the kernel was not complied for the sound card drivers in Chromebooks, even though the drivers are in the repo (they are the sof drivers).

The issue with installing any Linux on these Chromebooks is that Google does not want you to do that. So you have to get around the different write protections first (I did not know this and learned it on the fly).
