display problem (TQWidget)

hi Q4os
i just updated to 3.7 trinity. the system does not load the colours correctly from i believe about the point that (starttde) gets executed. there is also a glitch where if you try to adjust the colours from -> trinity control centre / appearance & themes / colours / color scheme   the task bar starts to go crazy, my terminal reports a problem with TQWidget.
if anybody else is having the same trouble or knows how to fix this then please let me know

warm regards
gaz

Please specify the installation media you have installed Q4OS from.

What color scheme ? A screenshost would be helpful

What color scheme ? What does taskbar do ? Please describe more exactly. A screenshost would be helpful

Re: display problem (TQWidget)

I tested what you did on my machine and it works as it should, so I cannot confirm an issue, is this a 32bit or 64 bit installation? and do you have the correct video drivers installed?
It might be most useful if you could install inxi and post the output of

inxi -F

this will show us some information regarding the machine specs and some driver status of your set-up.

Re: display problem (TQWidget)

@gazza
Thanks for the detailed reporting. As we are not able to reproduce this issue, we would need some more debugging on your side.

1. Please reboot the machine and run in terminal:
$ dcop kicker kicker restart
panel should be restarted. Report back, if that went properly. Next, run another commands:
$ dcop kicker kicker quit
$ /opt/trinity/bin/kicker
$ dcop kicker kicker configure
$ dcop kicker SystemTrayApplet iconSizeChanged
again, report back how it bears.

2. What is the error message printed on the terminal ? It's not readable from video.

EDIT:
3. How is terminal connected to the panel issue ?

Re: display problem (TQWidget)

I noticed your display is tty server, this makes me think it is not a "standard" installation or it is on another machine and you are using ssh to access it, or maybe in a VM? My systems always show something like :

Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4

Have you installed other desktop environments?

One more thing i noticed is that your desktop in the video looks very "Scorpion" and I was wondering if you upgraded Scorpion to Centaurus?
If so then I would imagine this to be the problem as it is not a recommended approach, it could still be recoverable but it would need a better understanding of Trinity than I have...

cool Pro tip: Using code boxes with terminal output makes it easier to read.

Re: display problem (TQWidget)

hi q4os team and dai_trying
thanks for helping me out

as i said in my original post from boot the colours dont load correctly, so i come out of vt-7 without logging in, and log into vt-1(then startx). doing this makes the colours correct.
i have customised the os a little, and so if the glitch is not reproducible by you two then it's definitely me.
i have been running this same system for a while, so a fresh install is probably going to be easier and better in the long term. i will lose all my settings unfortunately sad

thanks once again

Re: display problem (TQWidget)

I have to admit I tend not to adjust much on any distro I use, I stick to the default layout and colours and if I cannot use it I change distro, but there is a lot that can be customised without any compromise to the system I just prefer to keep things as simple as possible.
I do like the Centaurus appearance ootb, and I had grown used to Scorpion too, but I always change the background wallpaper which can make the whole desktop lighter/darker to my preference.

Re: display problem (TQWidget)

No, my local Rugby club. I always seem to remove a lot of software when I install a distro, that's my area of OCD smile much easier with Q4OS (IMO)

We are trying to reproduce that, but still no success. Would you provide some instructions how to reproduce such a quite serious bug, please ?

Re: display problem (TQWidget)

Well, if you will figure out how to reproduce that on another hardware, we would appreciate, if you post it here. Anyway, thanks for reporting smile
