Upgrading from Q4OS 3.x to 4.x?

Hello,

I am running Q4OS version 3:

    $ get-q4os-version
    3.15.2-n1
    $

Is there a way to upgrade to the latest version 4?  (I see from q4os.org that we are on 4.8 now.)

Or do I have to do a fresh install of 4?

Would very much like to upgrade without having to re-install.

Thanks,

Re: Upgrading from Q4OS 3.x to 4.x?

This topic has already been treated several times.

The developer recommends to do a fresh install.
You can also use the search tool on this forum to find a tutorial explaining how to upgrade from 3 to 4.

Personally I used a new SSD to install Q4OS 4 and I restored my Home directory (Documents, and so on) and several hidden directories (containing the settings of the programs I had installed before) from my old one. Everything works now flawlessly.

Of course, in my new install, I also installed the same programs as in my old install.

A new SSD is not necessary, you can also tar your home directory to an external drive or USB stick and restore from there.
