How to configure screen saver?

Hi. I'm just migrated from Windows. On Windows with the Edge (Chromium) browser, when I watch youtube in full screen, the screen saver doesn't apply because it somehow 'knows' that I'm watching youtube full screen. But the screen saver on Q4OS is not. After a while (maybe 5 mins), the screen saver kicked off and a clock appeared. I could still hear the sound of the video being played but it requires entering password to get back to the video. Please help me configure the screen saver to behave the same as on Windows. Thank you.

p/s: Almost forgot, I watched youtube using Chrome browser.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

You can disable screen saver in START -> Settings -> Control center -> Look and feel (at least I think so, because I use Russian translated version) -> Screen saver (see attachment).
There is no such "intelligent recognition" as in Windows (at least I do not know about it). Remove tick from that option or configure activation period.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Hi,
I'd like to activate a screensaver too, but I don't find where.
Not sure if I'm searching at the right place (french language) : Start > Applications > Configuration > Configuration du Système.
There, under "Apparence", there is "Apparence de l'espace de travail" which I suppose is the equivalent of "Look and Feel".
Unluckily there is no screensaver icon.
Maybe something to install? At the install time, I've selected "Basic Q4OD Desktop".
Thanks for any help.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Please see attachment. You have selected the wrong menu. Look at icons.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Thanks for your reply, Rademes.
The only place where I can type

settings:/

is within Konqueror.
Unluckily, much less icons are displayed and there is nothing that looks like your icon 1.
Everything I see there is the same (with another layout) as what I get using Start > ... (as I described in my last post).
I also tried sudo konqueror, but that is not allowed.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

TDE Screensaver can be configured by:-

Right Click on Desktop>Configure Desktop>ScreenSaver

If you want to disable Shadow Text and alter the desktop icon text width then click the Advanced button while you're there.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Thanks bin. I'm using Plasma and there is no Screensaver option under Configure Desktop.
I'm presently running Q4OS 3.13.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Next time, please tell us, which desktop environment you are using: Trinity or Plasma!
They are very different!

Re: How to configure screen saver?

As I recall there's a search box at the top of Settings. What happens if you type Screen Saver.

Sorry - I don't use Plasma so working from memory.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Screensaver isnt enabled on KDE by default and xscreensaver has to be installed to get it which can be done with Synaptic. Then youll need to go into system settings- startup and shutdown and make sure its enabled and running. I havent used it with KDE in quite awhile but youll also need to change the settings once screensaver is enabled in system settings.

I had some issues with screensaver causing problems with some apps like VLC so I never used it again.

Re: How to configure screen saver?

@Rademes: I'm sorry for having omitted to tell I use Plasma. Please accept my apologize.

@bin: Thanks for your advice, but nothing found with the search tool.

@crosscourt: Thanks for your explanation. I've installed xscreensaver (apt install) and now it works. There is still no screensaver option in "Startup and Shutdown" but this is not a problem to me.

Merry Christmas to all smile

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Startup and shutdown all you would see is if the Xscreensaver was enabled but obviously its working. Screensaver settings should now be visible in system settings but its been awhile.

Merry Christmas to you!  smile

Re: How to configure screen saver?

Hello, so there is no option to disable the screensaver just for the time of a video-call or a movie? in Trinity in my case
