Before I start digging through the files could you tell me if you tried installing and what the results were, and let me know anything that definitely did work and anything that definitely didn't. It will help me narrow down where to start

It partially worked. The background works, but not the login box background doesn't show up. The box to type password does, but not the image.

I can't get the login box to come up, what packages did you install to get it? (maybe kde4?) And how did you install the theme? I used the scripts that came with it and got nothing...

I used lightDM and Windoze theme. I installed the theme in /usr/share/themes and installed lightDM gtk+ settings package to change the theme.

Looks like a big fail on this one I'm afraid, I looked further into creating a greeter theme for lightdm and you would need some c experience to make it happen. If you want to have a look at what is involved there is some documentation HERE and HERE, but it requires some knowledge that I don't currently have, sorry about that.
When I looked at the source for the lightdm-gtk-greeter there is a glade file and I was hoping to simply change that using glade to get the required result, but glade complains about gtkmenubar which is a c file, I changed the file anyway and saved just to see if it would work, but I could not get it to compile, it complained about GOBJECT_INTROSPECTION_CHECK(0.9.5). But the background can be set easily using /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.
Sorry I couldn't help more but I think it would take me quite a long time to come up with a working solution. I will keep it in mind for when I have more time as I think a lot of users would like something like this.

Well, thanks for trying. However, I installed tdm display manager, and it installed a control manager to change the theme. The themes that came with it work just fine. I installed the Windoze theme, but it doesn't show up. Maybe the Windoze theme can be ported to tdm? I just can't figure out where the themes are.

I will have a look, but I think the log-in screen is going to be a problem whichever theme manager is used. I will post back here if I find anything

Themes are located in /opt/trinity/share/apps/tdm/themes and I think this could be a step in the right direction, although Windoze doesn't work directly but I didn't try it on a machine with lightdm installed so will check that out and see if it makes a difference.

Make sure to go into trinity control center and check use tdm themes can select the theme. mine partially works but i get an error

Theme not usable with authentication method 'Username + Password (classic)'

I'm still able to logon though it displays the logon box in the wrong area.

Off topic: location of XPQ4 theme files?

Yes! Ha Ha it worked! Do not use the Windoze theme. Use the other theme by speloalex instead.

I'm just in the middle of editing the Windoze login theme, so I might as well finish it and well done on getting the other one sorted, is the speloalex one a full theme with login?

Yes. I did use the speloalex theme. I used tdm dispay manager instead of LightDM. Changing it was pretty simple. I went into Settings:/System Administration/ Display Manager or something like that(I'm not on my linux at this time). Then go to administrative mode and check enable TDM themes, click the theme, then click apply.

I think the files you want are in the /usr/share/themes directory

I'm looking for the location of the "Keramik" theme and its not in that folder.

there are some files in /opt/trinity/share/apps/kthememanager/themes/Keramik/ and a couple of other folders too, if you type into a terminal (konsole)

 sudo find / | grep -i keramik

it will show you the relevant file-paths.

I tried placing the speloalex kde_xp theme files from kstyle to /opt/trinity/share/apps/tdestyle but nothing works.

I think it might be a case of looking at the files to see what they contain and try to find the file that q4os uses for those settings and either replace the file or modify it, but don't forget to backup first!
If you do get into a mess (display wise) you can always reset to original q4os by typing into the console

sh /usr/share/apps/q4os_system/bin/default_desktop_settings.sh

I grep'd through all the files I could find and can't see anything about the scrollbars, I'm sure there must be a setting somewhere but I cant find it sorry.

EDIT: I just looked in the files used by the desktop restore script, but if you type in the command line

cd /usr/share/theme
grep -ri -l "scrollbar"

it will list all the files that have the word "scrollbar" in them, this should help.

Edit: That didn't work. However I did find that the scroll bar theme is the default "Industrial" theme. I can't seem to find any of the theme files anywhere, though.

Edit#2: Okay, rather than modifying system files, I'll just use GTK2/GTK3 themes, which I already found a ton of XP GTK themes. I use LXApperence to view the theme but the themes I've download and placed in the /usr/share/themes folder doesn't show properly. Maybe the need to be modified in someway?

Edit#3: I got the GTK themes working, but can't switch to them.

I finally managed to get a screenshot of my login screen, had to do it through virtualbox though but I managed to get something similar to the windoze theme and I did one (which I'm using) with a q4os theme here are screenshots, and if anyone want them I will post them here too.
