Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

Every bug even minor one should be reported. Looking for workaround without report is not the right thing.

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Right Rademes, agree. By the way, we are working on this 'double confirmation box' bug at present.

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

I'm pretty sure that this software updater is unique to Q4os, so I would say it must be part of the Q4os package.
And I would not have been bothered by your first few posts regarding not seeing the issue, but the fact that you have 17 posts (to date) in this thread mainly saying it doesn't matter it's only you it affects, and use synaptic instead, that bothers me.
And even now you think an issue that could cause the user to think the OS is somehow "broken" or not working properly should almost be disregarded in favour of using synaptic, which it has been said in this forum is not particularly user friendly to new users.
I am grateful to the devs for the work they are doing on this issue, and although it is not a big problem it is one that could do with being remedied. Like I said in my original post it only caused me a problem as I could not close the updater, which if it happened to a user with less experience could be quite worrying and could cause them to find an alternative OS.

Rademes have you experienced the issue? I didnt see you post in this thread.

I always use sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, but for you, I tried to update using Q4OS update manager and yes, I also have two confirmation boxes when update finished.

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

We would need an info, if anybody noticed the double confirmation box within Q4OS 1.4.9 installation, but not upgraded from lower versions. Please mention it here, thank you.

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

@Dai
We were able to reproduce this within Q4OS 1.4.8, but not 1.4.9, we would need some additional info:

- How did you display the 'Package Updater' window ? From menu, systray popup icon, terminal or some other way ?
- Which way did you install Update manager ?
- Do you have Full profile installed ? Or other profile ?
- Would you run reportq4 and attach or mail the generated file please ?

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

I installed from q4os live-cd 1.4.9, then installed language and full desktop profile on restart. installed proprietary codecs (the only sure fire way I know to get updates as it opens the deb-multimedia repository). ran sudo apt-get update rebooted and waited for the systray icon to pop up and launched from there.

reportq4 mailed to you

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

We can definitely confirm the bug, thanks to Dai_trying's assistance. It's not Q4OS specific, but Debian related in general. We are able to trigger it on a clean Debian Jessie installation with XFCE4 desktop, with no Q4OS specific packages included. The exact steps to reproduce the issue on Debian Jessie:

- clean install of Debian Jessie, no desktop environment
- apt-get update ; apt-get dist-upgrade
- apt-get install xfce4
- apt-get install htop gnome-packagekit lightdm
- dpkg -i htop_0.0.1-r1_all.deb (we have created the fake 'htop' package to fire-up the package upgrade, attached below)
- reboot
- login into XFCE4 desktop and run in terminal as a user:
$ gpk-update-viewer
- package updater window will appear
- let updater to upgrade the 'htop' package
- two confirmation dialogs arise, the same as in Q4OS

We will report this at the Debian bugtracker.

We have created the fake 'htop' package to simulate package upgrade as described above, the package is attached here for those who want to play with.

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

So is the q4os updater "gtk-update-viewer"?

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

Yes it is, but you have made a small typo - not 'gtk-update-viewer' but 'gpk-update-viewer'

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

I have just scrutinized a recorded session and the update manager is updating and loading the cache twice at the end of updates, but the dialogs only come up when there are no more updates available, in fact the cache is only loaded once when there are more updates available. I have attached a small video clip showing what I mean.

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

Ok I found a solution, kinda. I inserted the line
ignore_updates_changed = TRUE;
at line 3009 in gpk-update-viewer.c just before
gpk_update_viewer_get_new_update_array ();
recompiled and everything worked properly!!
I have not gone through the entire code to see what effect this will have on anything else, but If it causes a problem somewhere else it could be set again easy enough.
I used the gnome-packagekit-gnome-3.14 source as I could not get the latest version to compile as version of gtk was too low, and I think that is the version we are currently using anyway.

Hello, Dai. good to see you installed 1.4.9 recently. I've been trying to put together a late night (for low data charges) and some funds and have just aquired a 1GB bundle specifically for downloading 1.4.9  iso.

Now it seems to have disappeared totally from the site!

My bundle will atuo-terminate in just under 5  h, so can someont help me quickly with information or alternative?

Thanks,

Basil

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

Panic over, just found it on Sourceforge and am getting last 100MB down now.

Horrible thought? Am I missing release of 1.5.0?

Re: Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

Horrific discovery: in 1.4.7 a single-click of the left mouse-button was enough to launch an app or open a folder; in 1.4.9 I cannot even find a setting for this - or is that just the effect of the late night?

Seriously, without this option, Q4OS slows right down in terms of responsiveness... Any help?
