Please follow Dai_trying's helpful hints, thanks Dai_trying.

What do you mean by this ? where to find those hints?

Dai_trying is experienced Q4OS user, you can safely follow his advice and recommendations across this forum.

In addition, please try to press ctrl+alt+f1 key combination to check, if the system freezes completely. Maybe you will be able to login to the terminal console and then run following command:
$ reportq4
Please post the result here and attach generated debug file here or send it to support@q4os.org to analyze.

Do other operating systems, for example Debian, work fine on this machine ?

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

I had a similar problem when installing @4OS on a T41 Laptop. Installation was smooth. After the first boot the mouse did not work. When I typed, e.g., an a I saw some numbers, like 4, on the screen. No idea what the trouble was. So I reboot - and then the trouble was away, works without problems since then.

If a mistake cannot be reproduced one cannot find its real cause, can one? ;-)

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

To post output simply select the text from the console right click and select copy, then in the forum post type [ code ] and then paste your output (ctrl-c or right-click and select paste) and at the end type [ /code ] to close the code box. You can put any comments before and/or after the code box.
When you type the code commands do not use spaces, I had to put them in to be able to show the command. smile

EDIT:
If you need to copy the code to another machine use

inxi -F > inxi-output.txt

and then copy the file to other machine for posting.

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

Ok, so your touchpad is synaptic which should work without issue, your keyboard will be generic so I don't expect that to be an issue.

There is a BIOS update available for that machine to bring it up to F.06 11 Nov 2008 which may or may not have any effect, and they also have some linux (rpm) software available although I'm not sure that would be of any use to a modern linux system due to the changes in the last 9/10 years.

If it were me I would install the bios update and then see if the issue remains.

As they have some software for linux it would be reasonable to assume that it should be "linux friendly" and if the bios update doesn't help I would be inclined to think there could be a hardware issue, although there is always the graphics card which can (and often does) cause issues like this but I will check further about graphics while you install bios update and check back.

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

A quick search on your video card tells me you will need to install xserver-xorg-video-openchrome to manage your video, I wouldn't be too surprised if that fixes your issue (fingers crossed). smile

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

You would need to do it on your installed system, If you cannot install to that system (because keyboard/mouse not working) you should select (from grub menu at startup) to boot to console only mode and login, install the module and then reboot.

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

If you are doing a fresh install you can try installing in the live session although I'm not sure it will be transferred to your installation (definitely worth trying though) so...

  1. Boot live session from usb

  2. Install xserver module in live session

  3. Install q4os to your machine

  4. Check if mouse/keyboard work ok, if so nothing else to do but enjoy your system smile

  5. If same error occurs install xserver module in new install (might need to boot into console mode see #37)

  6. Check if mouse/keyboard work ok,  if so nothing else to do but enjoy your system smile

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

ok a few questions, please answer them all

  1. did you install bios update from Hewlett Packard website?

  2. did you try to install xserver module AFTER installing Q4OS to the machine?

  3. have you tried any other Linux distributions that worked on this machine?

  4. You say "nothing works" does that mean Q4OS does not start or just the mouse and keyboard are still not working?

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

This machine was originally marketed with a SUSE pre-install option so it should behave: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_2133_Mini-Note_PC

If an external USB mouse and keyboard from another PC are available it will help to nail down what's going on.

Having some experience with HP BIOS updates for machines of that period I'd suggest the first choice would be to simply reset the BIOS to defaults and see if that helps.

Hey!
Thanks for help.
[*]I haven't install bios update from hewlett Packard. Note that  I have tried to install Linux lite after failing with Q4OS. But it crashed while intalling programs.[/*]
[*]I have juste tried linux lite so far and it crashed.[/*]

[*]Did I install xserver module after installing Q4OS? No, cause after installing q4os, after rebooting, the computer was freezing.[/*]

[*]Nothing worked means JUST the keyboard and mouse pad are still not working after intalling the system. I need to look for a USB keyboard and try if it will work.[/*]

Re: Mouse and Keyboard do not work after installation of Q4OS

Couple of things I would try:
You said you have already tried Linux lite and it failed, but I would try another OS, maybe even an old Windows. Or something like ReactOS (https://www.reactos.org/).
The other would be to try loading a headless Debian setup. That is without any GUI.

Other than those two, I would have to use a few foul words and think a while! smile

This would be a good suggestion (Thanks bin smile ) to start with.

After resetting your bios if the mouse/keyboard still lock out you will need to boot into your live usb and mount the HDD installation to edit the file /etc/default/grub. find the line that says

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

and put a # at the beginning of that line so it reads

#GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

and change the line that says

GRUB_TIMEOUT=1

to read

GRUB_TIMEOUT=5

then run the command

sudo update-grub

This will allow you to access the grub menu when the computer starts, after rebooting to your laptop installation you can select to boot into recovery mode, this will allow you to install xserver module to your system.

### START FROM HERE IF YOU PRESSED ESCAPE TO GET GRUB MENU ###

When the grub screen displays use the keys (will be working at this point) to select "Advanced Options..." and then select recovery mode.
This will place you at a root terminal.
bring up network card with

ifconfig eth0 up

enable dhcp with

dhclient eth0

Wait a minute until connection is made.
Now update apt

sudo apt-get update

Now install xserver module

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

after this you can reboot your machine (without usb).

Let us know if it works. smile

Thanks Dai_trying for this comprehensive help. In addition, it's possible to get grub table on system boot without changing 'GRUB_TIMEOUT' in '/etc/default/grub'. Just tap 'Esc' key several times immediately after computer switch on.

I found nowhere I could write # after clicking on edit option. sad
