The fixes presently are enabled in the LTS kernel releases such as 4.4, 4.9,4.14 but some distros have released customized versions based on the 4.13 like Mint. Certainly if youre using 4.15 youre ok for the time being. Agree performance issues were overblown as we are back to performance levels about the same as the 4.11 kernel.
]]>"According to some recent benchmarks done by a user on some Linux systems running newer kernel versions on a
particular network-heavy load, the recently released Linux 4.15 kernel appears to be between 7 and 9 percent faster
than Linux kernel 4.11.
But if the new KPTI (Kernel Page-Table Isolation) patches that mitigate the recently discovered Meltdown security
vulnerability are enabled on the Linux 4.15 kernel, then the performance is just 1 or 2 percent slower than on
systems running Linux kernel 4.11."

Just remember Y2K was nothing compared to that zombie outbreak we had here back in 1968 in Western Pa....! LoL,,!
Y2K? I do often wonder if the world ended then and I just didn't know it!
I tend to side with the conservative Torvalds - knee-jerk reactions everywhere - even Intel CEO dumping stock before
they went to public disclosure - and other wonks even creating new problems where none existed prior to - MS/AMD
Dont become part of the hysteria, problem, and dont shoot the messenger - simply leave it to the pros - enjoy life.

PS - I am sure that were one to dig deep enough into our DNA, one would probably detect a trace of Neanderthal
I kid you not, Ive never seen so many people panicked in my life when in fact ths situation was far more under control than they realized.
The countdown came and watching peoples reactions I just couldnt control my laugh, priceless.
]]>I was living in Wash DC and everyone was running around with their heads cut off back in the Y2K crisis, it was funny to watch!
I remember that, it was funny, I was in the same area at the time.
