I'm a long, long time user of Softmaker Office. It is the only suite that I can pretty well guarantee to produce complex .docx documents on linux that can be passed back and forth with Office users.
The other option of course is to use Office 2010 under Playonlinux or Crossover. Yes, I know we're getting into commercial software land. Office 2010 you can pick up at boot sales and Crossover costs me about £20 a year - I can cope with that.
I'm surprised, but OnlyOffice is actually even better with compatibility than SoftMaker. My security company sent me some forms to fill out the other day, a few things were actually missing in SoftMaker (tried 2016 & 2018), but opened it in OnlyOffice and everything was there.
Admittedly, this was the FIRST time I found something that didn't work 100% from MS to Softmaker in...9, 10 years of using it. But still, worth mentioning.

]]>I think FreeOffice is pretty darn close to MS Office and I also use WPS as it is today and it works fine.
FreeOffice is VERY good, as long as you don't mind not being able to SAVE as MS XML formats (can open).
WPS I'm less impressed by due to their dev team ignoring bug reports for quite literally years. The only time I've reported bugs for the linux Softmaker Office, it was fixed within 2 weeks (I'm part of their private alpha & beta testing team also).

Hi!
some people say that this set of office applications: https://www.wps.com/linux has a very good compatibility with the MS documents. I don't know how much this is true because I only use libreoffice, but anybody can try!
]]>Hi all and thank you all very much for your time. I obviously don't know what is going on with ktorrent and my set up. Strangely enough, I tried the suggestion 1st raised by Rademes and installed qbittorrent and it works!!! I'm overjoyed. Now I look at my list of apps I think I need and now only have questions.... Is LibreOffice compatible with Microsoft Office? Can documents I create, be read by Microsoft users? Is there a Daemon Tools equivalent (virtual drive tool) installed or available in Synaptic? If I could have advise on these I would be very grateful... Ken
Can LibreOffice docs be read by MS users? Yes. Will they look like you intended them to look when opened in MS Office? Most likely no. If they're the most basic of all documents, then they might, but if you use almost any features, then the formatting of LO vs. MS Office is different, and while much improved over the days of OpenOffice, still will come out looking off in MS Office.
What do you want virtual drives for? Mounting of ISO's? IF so, that is provided by the built-in mount command. I'm not sure of EXACTLY the right command string, but you tell it to mount the iso file as a loopback type, and it mounts as a virtual drive.
