Bulk file selection in Konqueror

Just a bit of an early morning/sleepless night grump but I am really frustrated with file selection in Konq.

If - for example - I want to select an odd block of files from a folder and I use Thunar or just about any other file manager, all I have to do is select the first one, shift and click the last and all in between are selected. Does this work on Konq - no - it just selects a double column of files!

I've tried every key/click combination I can think of and it just doesn't do it. Yes I can switch to detailed list view and it will then behave, but that takes more messing as I normally work in icon view. Yes I know I can draw a rubber rectangle over the files, but that doesn't work unless they are all in a neat block and I'm not going to fiddle with the window size just to make that work properly.

This probably isn't really a support topic, I know it's just one of those things, but every time it happens it bugs me and when we're talking tens or hundreds of files at a time I'd really like it to work the way it should.

Please try to post more exact steps how to reproduce this issue, a screenshot may help a bit. Multi select with click - Shift - click works fine here, we were not able to produce a bad behavior at all.

Selecting files in konqueror suffers from a known bug, that is already reported https://bugs.trinitydesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2750 , maybe there could be a connection to the described one.

No, I think it's a different issue but may well have the same root.
In the screen shot I selected file P1000141 then Shift Click P1000165.
I would expect all files between those to be selected - as happens in other file managers.
The actual selection is as shown.
I would then have to Ctrl Click to select the others.
This is across different machines on 1.8.2/3
