Booting q4OS from hard drive

I would like to install q4os on my netbook but there is no CD drive and for some reason I can't boot from a usb stick (I think it may be corrupted), it just hangs when I select the boot from usb option. I used the recommended way of creating a bootable usb (using the cp command).

However I found an article on how to boot Linux directly from an ISO here:

http://www.howtogeek.com/196933/how-to- … ard-drive/

For this you need to create a grub boot entry in /etc/grub.d/40_custom, but I'm not sure the exact form this entry should take. There is a link in the article to entries for various distros (including Debian):

http://git.marmotte.net/git/glim/tree/g … debian.cfg

obviously I will have to change a few details, but will this work for q4os? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Booting q4OS from hard drive

A couple of things to check...

1. check md5sum of iso image (before burning) and if it does not match (exactly) try downloading again.

2. check the bios of the netbook to ensure usb booting is enabled.

3 Loop mounting an iso from the HDD can be a real headache, I have achieved this once with an old machine and although I did get it working I cannot remember the exact steps needed to reproduce it so cannot test if it would work with Q4OS although the steps I took were very similar to your first link, but if I recall you will need grub installed to the HDD in the first place so it might not be possible to do it until you have installed it and if you get grub installed you will probably have linux installed so that would negate the need to do it...
