No connection after install

I just installed Q4OS on a desktop. Now it won't connect to network. It detects network, but won't connect. I get an error saying "Secrets were not found" or something like that.

Okay I got internet working and was able to update nvidia drivers. But now after reboot the display is small. went to display and the max size is 640 x 480! My screen is not that small! It's hooked up to a monitor.

No, but it is slightly blurry. Now thing are taking forever to load(login screen, desktop, etc.) they just don't load

could you post the results of inxi -F you might need to install inxi if you haven't already.

OK, dont install video drivers yet in case they are the cause of the problem.

Okay. Right now I'm just waiting for the login screen to show up. It just shows the mouse cursor loading.

That is pointing the finger at hardware failure maybe?? did the live-cd run ok?

There was no live option in the install menu.

Sorry I always use the live-cd for my installs, could you download and try using the live-cd to see if that works?

The live cd is stuck on the three dots loading screen, won't go past that.

This does have the hallmarks of a hardware issue of some sort, I wonder if it is a 32 bit box and you're using a 64 bit medium. I came across a range of Dells in the 2006 ish period that would run 64bit Windows but no way would they go 64 bit linux - at the time. Granted this seem unlikely as you've already had an install work.

So, please can you tell us more about the machine - make, model, age, amount of memory etc. You can get some valuable info by accessing the BIOS screen if you don't know about the RAM figure. It would also help to know if it has a sound card and network card or whether these are just off the motherboard. You can tell if they are separate cards as they'll occupy a slot in the rear of the machine.

It may just be worth you while trying a 32 bit live cd as well. How are you burning these, and do you check the md5sum values of the downloads to ensure they are good?

I still think this is pointing towards hardware failure, the only other thing I would do is to try another live-cd, maybe ubuntu and see if that will boot.
And one more thing to check, have you changed or reset bios settings at all? if not check to see if any values have changed or don't look right, and if you have changed anything try changing it back and see how that goes.

I resetted the BIOS. That didn't work. I had tried the 32-bit live cd, and that didn't work either. Here is a full list of specs on the desktop:

Well, in theory that should work....though the single core cpu will never be a flyer.

If you still have the bootable media that gave you the original install that sort of worked, then use that again.

When you get to the boot options use Recovery Mode and enter nomodeset at the end of the string. That should boot with a basic vesa driver for graphics.

You may need to use nomodeset xforcevesa if the above doesn't help.

If that works then at least you're on the right track to getting a working machine.
