Audio / Video player

On Ubuntu I could assign Audacity to open mp3 files and Kaffeine to open mp4 files.
But it seems in Q4OS that if I select (for example) Audacity to open mp3 files and make it default, then Audacity opens mp4 files too. If I assign Kaffeine to open mp4 files, and make it default, then it also opens mp3 files.
How can I separate the two??

Hey, Jim!  Not that I know a lot about this kind of thing, but what do you see when you right-mouse-click on an .mp4 file, then select "Properties" and then click on the wrench icon next to the "Type" variable?  Do you see anything like the image I've attached?  Can you specify the extension variables and the associate application in the dialog box?

Re: Audio / Video player

I don`t use Kaffeine, so I make VLC Media Player instead. Please check your Konqueror settings like shown in screenshots.

Using these settings in my PC mp4 files are being opened by VLC Media Player, but mp3 by Audacity.
P.S. VLC Media Player is much better than Kaffeine.

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Re: Audio / Video player

I finally stole a few minutes to work on this. Sorry guys, I haven't been ignoring you!

David - that did it. For mp3's it was set to use kaffeine first and had audacity as last. So, I moved audacity up to be first and it seems to work. For mp4's it was already set to use kaffeine as I wanted. Double checked mp4 settings after changing mp3's showed no change and opening they used the correct utility for each!
Thanks!!!

Excellent!  Glad it worked, Jim.  And don't worry, I know what it's like to get busy on other projects and things.  I didn't feel slighted at all.  wink
