Scorpion -- Cannot exit GUI with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

This had always been the traditional Linux key combo for exiting the GUI. Has it been changed? And if not, are there any workarounds? Thanks.

Re: Scorpion -- Cannot exit GUI with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

To get to terminal?  Try Ctrl+Alt+F7,  use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to return to GUI.  Ctrl+Alt+backspace isnt enabled with most distros.

To get to terminal Ctrl+Alt+F1,  use Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to GUI.

You could also use F2 - F6 for other tty's

Interesting as Q4OS KDE uses F1 and F7, but other distros(Neon for instance) Ive found dont and its F7 and F1, go figure.

Re: Scorpion -- Cannot exit GUI with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

Zorin that uses Gnome, F1 takes you to the login screen and F7 back to GUI, but most of my Ubuntu based distros its F7 tty and F1 GUI.
After researching this a bit online it appears F1 tty and F7 GUI is not a given and its solely dependent on the distro/DE.

Re: Scorpion -- Cannot exit GUI with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

Zorin = Ubuntu, Neon = Ubuntu. Both use F1 for gui and others for tty.
Q4OS (and most other Debian based distros) uses F7 for GUI and others for tty.

I'm not sure how you used F1 for GUI with Q4OS, but I will have to guess that you were actually using another distro at the time you posted.

Re: Scorpion -- Cannot exit GUI with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

I havent been using Q4OS KDE that long so my comment was based on the fact most of my distros use F7 for tty and F1 for GUI, as I didnt realize Q4OS was using F1 for tty at first. It wasnt till I had tried on Q4OS that I realized it was F1 tty.  I spend a lot of time in Ubuntu based distros so thats my perspective.  Some Debian based distros also have F7 TTY and F1 GUI as my first time using Netrunner  with Debian was that way.  As I said its dependent on the distro/DE as Gnome Shell in Zorin, F1 takes you to the login screen for the GUI and F7 takes you back to the desktop GUI.
Mageia,PCLinuxOS and ROSA also use F7 for tty and of the 20 distros I use I hadnt noticed one till Q4OS KDE that used F1 for tty.

Yes, this is it; thanks to both of you for the help!

Xenialpup 7.5 -- which I use as an alternate OS -- still uses CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to exit the GUI, then "xwin" (typed in without the quotes) to return to GUI.

Re: Scorpion -- Cannot exit GUI with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

/etc/default/keyboard

Edit using sudo

XKBOPTIONS="terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

May be a different location for keyboard depending on Trinity or Plasma or other factors - but that's the correct place in stock Debian 10

That will just take you back to the login screen.

Just tested this -- thanks, works great!

Same applies to Scorpion with Trinity, which should be same as Debian 9 (Stretch).

EDIT: Also need to reboot for these changes to take effect.
