Install was OK. Ran Nvidia installer from Q4OS Software.

Following reboot I am left with a display 1280x768 showing a 0 refresh rate.

Tried to run the Nvidia settings tool and it says:-
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver.  Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.
nvidia-xconfig doesn't exist.
Uninstalling leaves the same mushy screen setting - should be 1366x768

I have previously installed nvidia OK on this machine - that may have been Centaurus.

Please attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file here.

Anyway, you could install nvidia-xconfig from repositories, although it's not recommended for newer systems.

Re: Display problems following Nvidia 340 install on Trinity Scorpion r6

It looks like the driver has not been installed at all. Please post the following for analyze:
file "$HOME/.appsetup2/log/setup-q4os-nvidia-drivers.log"

Terminal output of commands:
$ nvidia-detect
$ dpkg --get-selections | grep nvidia

Re: Display problems following Nvidia 340 install on Trinity Scorpion r6

nvidia-detect:-

Detected NVIDIA GPUs:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G96M [GeForce 9600M GT] [10de:0649] (rev a1)

Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation G96M [GeForce 9600M GT] (rev a1)
Your card is only supported up to the 340 legacy drivers series.
It is recommended to install the nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver package.

dpkg output:-

glx-alternative-nvidia				install
libegl1-nvidia-legacy-340xx:amd64		install
libgl1-nvidia-legacy-340xx-glx:amd64		install
libgles1-nvidia-legacy-340xx:amd64		install
libgles2-nvidia-legacy-340xx:amd64		install
libnvidia-legacy-340xx-cfg1:amd64		install
libnvidia-legacy-340xx-eglcore:amd64		install
libnvidia-legacy-340xx-glcore:amd64		install
libnvidia-legacy-340xx-ml1:amd64		install
nvidia-detect					install
nvidia-installer-cleanup			install
nvidia-kernel-common				install
nvidia-legacy-340xx-alternative			install
nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver			install
nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver-bin			install
nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver-libs:amd64		install
nvidia-legacy-340xx-kernel-dkms			install
nvidia-legacy-340xx-kernel-support		install
nvidia-legacy-340xx-vdpau-driver:amd64		install
nvidia-modprobe					install
nvidia-persistenced				install
nvidia-settings-legacy-340xx			install
nvidia-support					install
q4os-nvidia-drivers				install
xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-legacy-340xx		install

Also notice error in boot text - found this in syslog:-

May 17 13:57:22 flopsy systemd-modules-load[195]: modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia-legacy-340xx not found in directory /lib/modules/4.9.0-8-amd64
May 17 13:57:22 flopsy kernel: [    0.240039] pci 0000:00:1c.0: bridge window [io  0x1000-0x0fff] to [bus 02-04] add_size 1000
May 17 13:57:22 flopsy systemd-modules-load[195]: Error running install command for nvidia

So it looks as though the install is happening, but not happening.

I have done this twice on fresh installs of both Scorpion r5 and r6 - each time the install concludes and requests a reboot.

Re: Display problems following Nvidia 340 install on Trinity Scorpion r6

So try to install driver manually:
$ sudo apt install nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver
and post a result back. If Nvidia still doesn't work, it's most likely a Debian issue.

and also post the logfile:
"$HOME/.appsetup2/log/setup-q4os-nvidia-drivers.log"

Re: Display problems following Nvidia 340 install on Trinity Scorpion r6

You may only need to update your system to build the Nvidia module for the current kernel 4.9.0-9. Please try to perform the update:
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt dist-upgrade
Reboot, check the video driver and post back the result.

Re: Display problems following Nvidia 340 install on Trinity Scorpion r6

Yes - it's a dependency issue.

Processing triggers for nvidia-legacy-340xx-alternative (340.106-2~deb9u1) ...
update-alternatives: updating alternative /usr/lib/nvidia/legacy-340xx because link group nvidia has changed slave links
Setting up nvidia-legacy-340xx-kernel-dkms (340.106-2~deb9u1) ...
Loading new nvidia-legacy-340xx-340.106 DKMS files...
Building for 4.9.0-8-amd64
Module build for kernel 4.9.0-8-amd64 was skipped since the
kernel headers for this kernel does not seem to be installed.
Setting up nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver (340.106-2~deb9u1) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.24-11+deb9u4) ...

This is not good as the nvidia installer is out of step with the rest of the installed system.

I have always fought shy of running dist-upgrade in the past as it has the power to totally bork a system under some circumstances.

Installed image 4.9.0.9 and all is good - repeated from scratch install with both r5 and r6 and it works.

Thanks for the assistance.

Re: Display problems following Nvidia 340 install on Trinity Scorpion r6

We have updated the Q4OS installer for Nvidia video cards. It now pulls linux-headers dependency automatically. It would be helpful, if you could test the installer on your hardware.
