Update manager two confirmation boxes when finished

I today had an issue where I thought something had crashed update manager, I got the notification that updates were available and proceeded to the package updater where updates were duly installed.
The problem arose because I had multiple applications open at the same time and when navigating back to package updater (alt-tab) to click ok to close the window I couldn't click it. After closing all the other applications successfully I still could not close the package updater and by chance dragged the box slightly revealing another identical dialog box which I could click on to close it, which in turn allowed me to close the second dialog box and then close the package updater.
This is not really a major problem, but did cause me to prepare to "kill" updater from a terminal, and then I would have had to reboot to ensure system would be clean, All of which is just a bit of a pain, but due to a small bug in the updater.
I thought I had mentioned having to click twice on the ok button when finishing updates in the forum but could not find that post... And I did not realise that two dialogs were displayed at the same time which is what is caused the issue.

Have you noticed if you have to click the ok box twice at the end when using the package updater? It could be something I have done, but I'm sure it happens on all my installs...

Ok I had to check this out, and on my 32bit systems all is well, but on my 64 bit systems I get the double ok box when updates have completed, I have checked two machines with each architecture and this is the same per architecture.

Really??? well there's a puzzle, maybe it's to do with live-cd install vs installation only iso install as I only use live-cd and you usually use installation iso... That's the only difference I can think of that may affect it...

The two 64 bit machines I tested one has just the full desktop profile, the other has quite a few other apps installed, but both were installed via live-cd, so I am guessing that will be the culprit somewhere...

I've just updated another installation and I'm definitely getting two dialog boxes coming up. So this is definitely a bug

We will investigate the issue and put findings here. If we have understood well, the procedure to reproduce should be as follows:
- Clean Q4OS install from live CD
- Pure profile select
- Install update manager from Software centre
- Let update manager to update the system
- Check for double confirmation dialog boxes.

Is it correct Dai ?

I used a full desktop profile, although I don't think it will be different, and it only happens with 64bit install, 32bit seems to work correctly. Thank you

Just a suggestion, If you experience some kind of interface bugs, it is better to record small video clip, to show what exactly is happening. Or at least provide some screenshots.
For me, its easier to make screenshot, rather than explain bug in details (English is not my native language).

A very good suggestion, I will try and remember that for the future, although a video clip would have to be hosted externally and would not always be available (for later references), but I will post screenshots where I can.

I have three installs on 2 machines all with the same issue, I am currently installing from the install only iso to see what that does on one of the machines, although it is a major pain to have to remember to disable the swap formats before installing and then I will have to manually set the swap partition in fstab, and then reinstall grub from my main distro (another pain) before getting everything back to normal... I will post here if the issue is the same or not...

Ok result of an install only iso setup. same result!!!! see attached screenshot
They are normally directly on top of each other and if you sometimes click twice you would not notice that they were in fact two different boxes.

I now have four installations (64bit) and get the same results on them all, 3 from live-cd and 1 from installation-cd and cannot believe I'm the only one to experience this??

I was wondering the same thing??, are you sure you are using 64bit? I read in the forum that you usually prefer to use 32bit even on 64bit systems...

It could arise only on some updates, for example, if there are important and common upgrades together.

I don't recall it not happening after updates, but if there is anything I can do (maybe log update status/information somehow) to help narrow down the problem please let me know and I will do what I can to help.

As an update, I just logged in to a 32bit to test an app I'm working on, and there were about 60 updates, 1 of which was "important" and at the end of updates I was presented with the double boxes, so looks like it's not just 64bit screenshot attached

The problem is most users will simply click on the update icon in taskbar and update from there.

I agree it is not a serious issue, I do think it is an issue that should be addressed rather than abandoning a good feature of the OS for synaptic, I much prefer to get a warning icon and clicking it to get the updates installed. If the updater is removed would it then mean users having to sudo apt-get update or synaptic reload just to refresh apt? I would guess (as I don't know for sure) that the updater refreshes apt and then does it's notifying, so it's an all in one solution for updates.
And I would guess that most users (like me) would just click twice on ok without giving it any thought, I only noticed it as an issue when I alt-tabbed to the second dialog box that couldn't be closed until the other was closed first.
I only reported it so that it might get fixed and not be an issue for others, maybe I should have just closed it and said nothing...

It's hard not to take your comments the way I have when you are insistent that you have never seen the issue and nobody including a tech team can reproduce this effect, and I have it happening on both 32bit and 64bit machines with both live-cd install and install-only iso installs.
I too have worked with many different computer set-ups and operating systems, and I know when something is working correctly or not, And a workaround in this case would have been a simple click twice and forget it, however if we don't report any findings to the dev team and hopefully get them resolved, how will we end up with a better system?
Your way of finding an alternative route is ok if you don't want this OS to progress and become better, personally I would like to see everything work as the dev's intended (and spent a lot of time achieving), so that new users will not have to endure what appears a quite insignificant (but annoying!) bug.
I will continue to report anything I find that is not "correct", and hopefully this will help towards making this great OS even better than it already is.
I use q4os now for somewhere around 80% of my systems, and have started installing it on other peoples machines which will no doubt lead to me finding more small annoyances that I would like the devs to look into when they can, but I won't simply jump ship when there's a leak, I will try a plug and fix the hole first!
