Re: Saying hello --- for a second time

That was a little before my time but I always get nostalgic about certain distros over time.

Yep --- I think I kept some DVD & CD's companies in the black for a long long time.

I made distro hopping an addiction. A happy addiction - but an addiction all the same.

Do you remember the first distro you ever tried ?

Mine was Corel - followed by Fedora and Mandrake.

Wow - has it really been 17 years ?

Timing eh... I just posted about this in another post, DSL (damn small linux for those who didn't know) was my first introduction to the world of Linux, I needed to get a small installation onto an aging laptop (it was old even back then) and did manage to get a working solution, but it took a really long time and a lot of googling (with very limited results compared to now) and although it only lasted less than 6 months it gave me the bug and I started looking for other Linux offerings. And now here we are... smile

Re: Saying hello --- for a second time

I can't remember my first linux distro. I do know I downloaded Red Hat 8.0 over a 14.4 dialup modem! I still have the CD's! If I remember correctly I did install it, but had too much trouble trying to configure everything and went back to Windows.

Re: Saying hello --- for a second time

My first  Mandriva/PCLinuxOS were my favorites.  I was very addicted to distrohopping and even ran a site distroratings.com to work with as many distros as possible.

I got into Linux in 2007 but really wasnt serious till 2009.

Re: Saying hello --- for a second time

Actually just thinking on this subject ---

-- are there any good sites where we can go to find old distros & flavors that have dropped out of circulation ?

There are some I would love to play around with - just for old times sake.

For instance FoX Desktop Pro.

It was ' The Italian Job' of its day.

And like all things Italian - oozing with sexiness. smile

Re: Saying hello --- for a second time

I found this page on Softpedia that offers a download (untested by me) for version 1 of Fox Desktop Pro and I'm sure you can find other older OS's there too.

Re: Saying hello --- for a second time

Heres my go to website for older Linux versions,  https://old-linux.com but there are also archives thru many of the better known distros such as Red Hat with much older versions.
