Keep welcome screen in the menu

If users would like to have access to the welcome screen from the main menu (for easy access) it is easy to do, simply edit one file...

sudo nano /usr/share/applications/q4os-welcome-screen.desktop

You will need to enter your password to edit. Now use the curser keys navigate to the line that reads NoDisplay=true and put a hash (#) at the beginning of that line so it should read #NoDisplay=true.

Save the file using Ctrl-x then y and finally enter

It will likely need a logout/reboot before it appears but afterwards it will always be available. smile

"Q4OS Welcome Screen" will be available from Programs -> Accessories -> System

Of course this is not essential as you can access the welcome screen by right clicking the desktop and select Run Command, then start typing welcome and you will see welcome-screen.exu from the dropdown list, simply select it and click run and it will appear.

Re: Keep welcome screen in the menu

I dont use the welcome screen as most of the functions are available separately but typically Ive used the run command and typed welcome to quickly find it as you mentioned Dai. Very easy even for a new user of Q4OS. Probably should be included in the main menu by default as other distros do with similar features.

Re: Keep welcome screen in the menu

Yes I agree, I usually use it the same way when needed but thought it was worth posting for new users. smile

Re: Keep welcome screen in the menu

Anything we can do to make it more newbie friendly is a plus.  Having Synaptic available by default as well is a good move.
