Install Q4OS on Dell XPS 13

I have a new Dell XPS 13 that I'm trying to install Q4OS on. I have a 256 GB SSD that I've only installed Libre Office on. When trying to install, I get an error message that reads, "You have 0.00 GB available on your disc." I've installed Q4OS on 2 other computers that originally had Windows with no problem.
I realize that this is a Dell/Windows issue, but if anyone knows what this is about, help would be much appreciated.

Re: Install Q4OS on Dell XPS 13

I have a dell 13 3552 that I run a few linux distros on and they all run well, although I do not have SSD though, so if that is causing the problem (which I doubt) then I wouldn't be much help.

When you say you only have Libre Office installed on the SSD, does that mean you installed a Linux distro with Office on it or have you just used the space to install Office using Windows (or other Linux) so that the SSD is a "data" drive?

And is this SSD a second drive on your machine or is it the only drive?

And lastly, did you try the live-cd to check compatibility or just the installation iso image?

Re: Install Q4OS on Dell XPS 13

First, thank you for the response.
The computer came with Windows 10. After almost 10 years of only using linux, I thought I would give Windows a try, so I installed Libre Office. After about a month, I've decided I don't want any part of Windows, so I tried to install Q4OS.
The SSD (256 GB) is the drive that is installed on the computer.
I tried the live CD. It looked fully compatible. When I clicked install, I got the message that I have 0.00 GB available.
Again, thanks.

Re: Install Q4OS on Dell XPS 13

Ive run Q4OS on a number of SSDs on Dell laptops and havent had any issues. I installed Q4OS directly over Windows 8 and used the entire drive with no issues.

You could try Scorpion as its using a newer kernel which would have support for newer SSDs and certain troublesome models.  Ive had issues with the 3.16 kernel with certain SSDs and  typically use the 4.4 kernel instead.

Also spotted this thread you posted in,  https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2362850

Their comments are spot on but you could also hit the Dell forums and see if they could help.

Re: Install Q4OS on Dell XPS 13

Like you, I have installed linux on 4 laptops that came with Windows. However, this is a new computer with Windows 10, and, all-of-a-sudden, it's really tough. As you saw, I tried Ubuntu with the same problem. I much prefer Q4OS to Ubuntu, but I was desperate, and Ubuntu has a no-brain installer (perfect for me).
Thanks for your response; I'm going to try Scorpion.

Re: Install Q4OS on Dell XPS 13

You can take a look at this as well, its from the Debian wiki about installation on Dell XPS 13. Q4OS being Debian based, (Orion-Jessie/8, Scorpion- Stretch/9) it may help you sort this out.

https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebia … PS_13_9360

Heres another install guide you might want to look thru,
http://github.com/konklone/debian/blob/ … talling.md

Id also contact Dell directly or thru their service forums to get some help.

Im assuming your running the SATA setting  as AHCI and have UEFI secure boot turned off in the bios as well?

Re: Install Q4OS on Dell XPS 13

Crosscourt....
Thanks, I really appreciate the help. I bought this laptop about a month ago and had planned to install linux immediately. When I ran into problems, I thought, okay, it's been 10 years since I've used Windows, so I'll give it a try. I have & I hate it. I don't like Bill Gates, but I have to admit that he must be a genius, to take an inferior product and be so successful with it.
Again, thanks for the help.
