Brother HL-L2340DW Printer

I just purchased one of these printers and thought I would have a few issues installing it to work with linux, but to my surprise it was INCREDIBLY EASY! I simply downloaded the install script from the brother website, ran the script, agreed to the terms (as usual) and hey presto it was working!!!
I just thought I would post this to let others know that it works in case they are uncertain of compatibility as it is one of the cheaper models out there and this usually leads to issues smile

Re: Brother HL-L2340DW Printer

Same here with my Brother AIO MFC-5440cn printer. I've had this printer for about 10 years or so. All the .deb & .rpm distros will pretty much work with ease. It's the non .dep/rpm distros that may give you trouble. I've found that some work and some don't.

Thanks for bringing it up!

Re: Brother HL-L2340DW Printer

I had trouble with Funtoo, Crux Linux & Salix, those are the one's I installed. When I first tried Salix some years ago, I ran the 32 bit OS and was able to get the printer working. But since I've installed the 64 bit version, I haven't been able to get it working.

With all those mention (64bit), I was able to have the printer setup (I assume correctly), but nothing would print from a test page or from a document. I never could get it to print paper.

Re: Brother HL-L2340DW Printer

I have to admit I tend not to use any distro that doesn't use deb packages as they are what I'm most familiar with although I have tried several niche distros like tiny which are really what I would call a guru distros, I think you need a lot of linux savvy to be able to use it properly. But as distrowatch figures show those that are based on debian/ubuntu are considerably more popular, and because of this, easier to set-up and get help if something goes wrong.

Re: Brother HL-L2340DW Printer

That is one reason I keep Mageia and/or Debian installed, both have the drivers available from Brother!
